Honour a veteran at Christmas in the Air Bazaar in Dundas

Organizer Michelle Schmidt is looking to do something special this year at the Christmas in the Air Bazaar, to honour veterans and the 100th anniversary of the poppy.

Schmidt, who also operates Stuffed Handcrafted Perogies, is preparing for the bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Royal Canadian Legion Valley City Branch 36, at 280 King S. W.

“We would like to get the community involved to collect Christmas cards for the local veterans,” said Schmidt.

After inquiring with the Dundas legion, Schmidt discovered the branch has several members living in retirement and care homes who might not have family nearby.

“We thought this might be nice if they got a couple of Christmas cards from the community,” said Schmidt.

Schmidt calls it, “A veteran’s Christmas.”

Cards can either be handmade or store-bought and children are welcome to contribute.

A drop box will be available at the bazaar for patrons to place their cards. The cards will be distributed by the legion, so no postage is required.

The bazaar runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 27 and admission is free. Stuffed Handcrafted Perogies will be among 23 vendors at the event.

Schmidt and her family have continued to offer perogy dinners at the legion on the first, third (and fifth if there is one) Friday of every month from 4-6:30 p.m.

In addition to perogies, menu offerings have included schnitzel, beef goulash with potato pancakes, and cabbage rolls.

Stuffed. would like to express our gratitude to everyone who attended the Christmas in the Air Bazaar at the Dundas Legion!

We are so happy to have been able to host an event again this year. A huge THANK YOU to all of our talented vendors as well. You really made the day feel special!

We would also like to give a shout out to the students at St. Augustine School in Dundas and Mrs. Ciavarra’s Grade 5 Class at Guardian Angel School in Waterdown for preparing Christmas Cards for the Local Veterans!  Over 150 cards were collected from the Community and given out with a Poinsettia to every Veteran from Branch #36 in Dundas.
