CampOut for Cancer is a fundraising event for the Trillium Childhood Cancer Support Centre, which was held on October 14th.  This virtual camping experience allowed participants to choose to camp in a local park, at their favourite campground and even in their backyard or living room to help raise awareness for childhood cancer.

Camp Trillium, which is the largest pediatric oncology camp in North America, sends approximately 3,100 campers annually to year-round camping and recreational programs.  There are two facilities located in Ontario, the first called Rainbow Lake in Waterford (near Simcoe) and the second called OuR Island in Bloomfield (near Belleville).  These camp locations help to bring together the families of children diagnosed with cancer from hospitals across the province, including: McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton; Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto; Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa; Southeastern Cancer Centre in Kingston; and the Children’s Hospital (London Health Sciences Centre) in London.  The most unique part of Camp Trillium is that the entire family goes to camp.  It is a place where the kids get to spend time having fun with their brothers and sisters, making new friends, and just forget about cancer for a while.

Throughout the summer, stuffed. donated all proceeds from the sale of the Loaded Baked Potato Perogies towards the CampOut for Cancer event.  This new flavour combines shredded cheddar cheese, real bacon bits, sour cream, butter and fresh chives with russet potatoes to make the perfect perogy!  Everyone who purchased a bag was also entered into one of three draws for an Extreme Bean Gift Basket.

Together with your support and the fundraising efforts from all of the other CampOut for Cancer participants, we were able to raise over $130,000 for Camp Trillium, which equates to 866 camp days for 130 children in 2018.  Thank you again for your generosity!
